Woontack Woo
received his BS in Electronics Engineering from Kyungpook National
University (KNU, Daegu, Korea) in 1989
and his MS (Advisor: Prof. Hong Jeong) in Electronics and Electrical
Engineering from Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH, Pohang, Korea) in 1991. In 1998,
he received his Ph.D. (Advisor: Prof.
Antonio Ortega) in Electrical Engineering-Systems from University of
Southern California (USC), CA, USA.
In 1999, as an invited Researcher, he joined Advanced Telecommunications
Research (ATR), Kyoto, Japan.
Since Feb. 2001, he has been with the Gwangju Institute of Science and
Technology (GIST), where he is an
Associate Professor in the Dept. of Information and Communications (DIC) and Director of.Culture Technology
Research Center (CTRC). The main
thrust of his research has been implementing a holistic smart environments,
which include
Context-aware for Ubiquitous Computing, Wearable Computing for
Mediated Reality, and Interactive Media Systems.

I
am a Ph.D. Candidate in U-VR Lab. at gist. I am a Christian and go to
Mustard Seed Chruch in Hightech Complex, Gwangju. My main research interest
is to generate a 3D Panoramic Virtual Environment (3D PVE) based on
multiple 3D cameras. Nowadays, we can generate 2D-based panoramic images
using a lot of commercial or free softwares. However, they have some
limitations in providing the users with immersive feeling. On the other
hand, 3D PVE can be one of the best candidates for a user-navigation with
immersivce feeling !! Interesting and Exciting !! Isn't it? I am trying to
create this kind of virtual envi-ronment exploiting 3D point clouds of
several real scenes. Considering current explosion of the commercial/free
2D-based stitching softwares, I think it is not impossible to make so much
money if I would succeed in making 3D PVE-like system. ^^; Cross your
fingers, plz.

This
is Dongpyo Hong, and I am a Ph.D student in GIST U-VR Lab. My research
interests are Human Computer Interaction based on Computer Vision. During
my master course in GIST, I worked on vision-based user interface such as
SpaceSensor. In Ph.D program, however, I have been working on wearable
computing in which I am looking for how wearable computer can be used in
the future computing environment. I have been working on various projects
since I joined this U-VR lab. You can find more interesting things in my
